Watershed News

Dear Kaskaskia River Watershed Stakeholder:

The Kaskaskia Watershed Association’s 22nd Annual Summit will be held on March 4, 2024, (9:00 am – 2:00 pm) at the Mariner’s Village Resort Conference Center in Carlyle, IL. The theme for this year’s Summit is “Water, Water Everywhere But Not a Drop to SPARE!”.

Since the last Summit we have emerged from the pandemic and have focused on recovery efforts at the Corps of Engineers facilities in the watershed. State Representative Charlie Meier introduced HB 2381 to secure matching funds for the Ecosystem Watershed Plan. Over the summer and into the winter a drought has put the water resources in peril. Plans to be ready for the next drought are being developed. Forest tree leaf loss and accelerated tree decline, and death has been documented in the Watershed. This year’s Summit will address these very important and timely issues.

The Kaskaskia Watershed Association is one of the most active groups in the state. As usual we have invited the elected officials in the Watershed or their representatives to be available for comments and to converse with you on issues that are near and dear to your concerns.

Please join us and register for the Summit, RSVP by February 27, 2024. You can register online at https://kaskaskiawatershed.wordpress.com/ or you can mail your registration to Mr. Cal Guthrie, Sec/Treasurer. Make your check payable to Kaskaskia Watershed Association.
